Each year, June serves as an important reminder of our responsibility to protect older adults, and June 15th – recognized globally as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day – holds special significance for the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation. It is a day dedicated to raising awareness of elder abuse and reinforcing the importance of protecting seniors from exploitation, neglect, and financial harm.
In recognition of this year’s observance, we are proud to launch a new initiative that will continue throughout the year: The Scam Spotter Showdown Tour.
As technology evolves and fraud schemes become increasingly sophisticated, older adults face growing risks from online scams and financial exploitation. To help combat these threats, the Foundation’s field representatives will travel across the country,
This year, they will be joined by a new traveling companion: Cy “Bear” Savvy, The Scam Spotter! Bear is a scam-spotting gnome with a knack for recognizing trouble before it strikes and helping others do the same. During visits to senior communities, Bear brings games and activities designed to help learn about cyber fraud, scams and financial abuse that are both educational and fun!
Follow along throughout the year for updates from the road as Bear helps spread scam awareness and financial safety education. For tour updates and photos, follow the Senior Housing Crime Prevention Foundation on Facebook, LinkedIn and X at @SHCPF
